6-Step Wallpaper Installation Guide
The first and most crucial step is preparing the wall. The surface must be clean, dry, and smooth. Any holes or cracks are filled with a filler and then sanded down to create a uniform surface for the wallpaper to adhere to.
Once the wall is prepared, the wallpaper rolls are unrolled on a clean, flat surface. The wall’s height is measured, and the wallpaper is cut into strips, allowing a few inches of excess at the top and bottom for trimming. It’s important to match the pattern between strips during this step.
Next, a professional-grade wallpaper adhesive is applied. Depending on the type of wallpaper, the paste is applied either directly to the wall using a roller (as shown in the image, a common method for non-woven wallpapers) or to the back of the wallpaper itself.
The first strip of wallpaper is then carefully placed onto the pasted wall, starting from the top and working downwards. A wallpaper smoother or brush is used to gently press the paper onto the wall, smoothing out any air bubbles and ensuring a firm bond. The edge is aligned with a plumb line for a straight finish.
After the wallpaper is smoothed onto the wall, the excess paper at the ceiling and skirting board is carefully trimmed away using a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. This creates clean, crisp edges and a professional finish.
Finally, once all the wallpaper has been hung, a thorough inspection is carried out to ensure the seams are tight, the pattern is correctly aligned, and there are no imperfections. The finished work is then presented to the customer for final approval.
